Mechanical Design Engineer is required in Ashford, Kent for our client, a specialist manufacturer of non-ferrous continuous extrusion machinery and cold pressure welding equipment.

With a strong international customer base, our client designs and manufactures heavy machinery, extrusion tooling and process plant, much of which is customer-specific and produced on a one-off basis.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineer or graduate to join a multi-disciplined engineering team, working on a variety of mechanical design projects while contributing to technical documentation and providing support to customers worldwide.

Mechanical Design Engineer Job Overview

• Undertaking mechanical design work across heavy machinery, extrusion tooling and process plant.

• Designing customer-specific production equipment, much of which is manufactured on a one-off basis.

• Producing mechanical designs using AutoCAD, Inventor or other 3D CAD packages.

• Supporting the design and development of machinery and associated equipment.

• Producing technical documentation for equipment and engineering projects.

• Providing technical support to a global customer base.

• Working closely with manufacturing to ensure designs are suitable for practical production.

• Reporting directly to the Chief Engineer.

Mechanical Design Engineer Job Requirements

• HND or higher qualification in Mechanical Engineering.

• Graduates will be considered.

• Experience using AutoCAD and Inventor or other 3D CAD packages.

• Understanding of manufacturing processes and how they apply to mechanical design.

• Willingness to travel internationally, averaging approximately 2-3 trips per year.

• Practical understanding of inspection and quality control procedures would be advantageous.

• Knowledge of metal machining would be beneficial.

• Familiarity with hydraulics and pneumatics would be advantageous.

Mechanical Design Engineer Salary & Benefits

• Salary: £30,000-£35,000 per annum, depending on experience.

• Holiday entitlement: 5 weeks annual leave.

• Pension: Contributory pension scheme.

• Working hours: 37 hours per week.

• Monday-Thursday: 08:00-16:30.

• Friday: 08:00-13:00.

• Working arrangement: Office based.
