Why are we holding the golf day?

I’m Lloyd Damron, Sales Director of Bennett and Game, but more importantly, I’m Darcy’s Dad.

charity golf day at goodwood

We are holding this charity golf day in loving memory of our daughter, Darcy. Although her life was heartbreakingly short, the impact she has had on our family, and on everyone who knew her, will last forever. Darcy bravely fought a devastating brain tumour, and during the darkest and most painful time of our lives, we were supported with extraordinary compassion, dignity and kindness by Naomi House & Jacksplace Hospice.

Darcy spent 16 precious days at Naomi House, where she was able to enjoy time in the pool, relax in the sensory room, and where we took long walks together around the beautiful grounds. In those moments, surrounded by care and understanding, we felt like parents again, not carers, not visitors, just a family making memories. Naomi House didn’t just care for Darcy; they cared for us as her parents too, giving us comfort, space, and moments we will cherish forever.

Why are we raising money?

In Darcy’s memory, we created Darcy’s Dream to ensure that other families facing the unimaginable can receive the same love and support that meant so much to us. Through Darcy’s Dream, we are raising funds for Naomi House & Jacksplace, the hospice that cared for Darcy and supported us when we needed it most.

We are aiming to raise £58,000, representing the 58 days Darcy bravely fought her brain tumour with all funds raised from this charity golf day going directly to Naomi House & Jacksplace. The hospice needs to raise around £9 million every year to continue its vital work, with only around 10% coming from statutory funding, meaning it relies heavily on the generosity of supporters to survive.

This golf day is one of several fundraising events we are organising to turn our grief into something positive. By taking part, you are helping ensure that families walking a similar path to ours are never alone, and that their children are cared for with warmth, dignity and love. Thank you for supporting Darcy’s Dream, and for helping us transform Darcy’s story into hope for others.

goodwood estate

Goodwood is England’s greatest sporting estate. Seat of the Dukes of Richmond for over three centuries, the family has always welcomed their friends and guests to share in their love of sport. Hunting, shooting, cricket, horse racing, golf, flying and motor racing have all been introduced by enthusiastic family members.

Goodwood has been at the heart of the English summer season for at least two hundred years. It hosts the internationally famous Festival of Speed, The Qatar Goodwood Festival and Goodwood Revival, three of the largest events in the British sporting and social calendar.

Within its 12,000 acres, Goodwood is home to one of the largest lowland organic farms in England, a famous Battle of Britain airfield, a historic racecourse and motor circuit, two golf courses and one of the oldest cricket grounds in the country, all centred around the magnificent Goodwood House.

Golf at Goodwood

Golf has been played at Goodwood for over a century. There are two Championship golf courses on the Goodwood estate: the Downs Course and the Park Course. The Downs Course was designed originally for the pleasure of the seventh Duke of Richmond’s golf- mad children by the famous golfer and five-time Open Champion, James Braid, in 1914. It has been described as the finest Downland course in Britain and is ranked as one of the Top 100 Golf Courses in England.

The Park Course, designed by renowned Architect Donald Steel, is situated in the parkland surrounding Goodwood House, overlooked by some of the majestic cedar trees planted by the third Duke of Richmond. ‘Golf At Goodwood’ offers a unique golf experience for all, based around the flexibility of its well-known Credit Membership. A growing Golf Academy programme has encouraged many of tomorrow's golfers to take up the game through the unique and innovative approach Goodwood takes to golf.
